Sundance Photographic Workshop

The Art of Travel Photography

November 5 - 9, 2008

Brenda Tharp

Everyone wants to come back from their travels with great pictures that capture the essence, the feeling of the place, and yet so often the pictures don’t quite do justice to the experience. This Workshop is your chance to change that. Designed to help advanced amateurs gain insight on how to create better travel photographs and how to tell a story with pictures, this Workshop is scheduled during the acclaimed Cowboy Poetry Gathering & Buckaroo Fair in nearby Heber City. This unique event celebrates the cowboy, the cowboy poet, and everything truly western. We’ll have access backstage for behind the scenes, one-on-one photo opportunities with real cowboys who perform during the event. We’ll also use the surrounding towns and landscape to capture pictures that express the beauty of the area and the spirit of the West that still exists.

Brenda will open with a visual presentation that will cover many aspects of travel photography, including how to capture a sense of place, how to work with and photograph people, how to work in mixed light conditions, how to use flash, managing a digital workflow on the road and more. She will work with students in critique sessions and in the field where feasible, helping students make memorable pictures. Participants will work in digital, and must have basic photography and digital skills in exposure, downloading, and editing. A laptop is required for editing and preparing images for critiques.
