Sundance Photographic Workshop

A Natural Eye

May 7 - 11, 2008

Eddie Soloway

At the heart of any good photograph is both the passion for the subject and your ability to uniquely capture it. Perhaps you love the outdoors yet find that your images keep looking like pretty postcards. Or perhaps you’ve been distracted by cameras, pixels, and software at the expense of building your vision. If so, join Eddie Soloway for an intense workshop looking at the natural world with fresh new eyes. This workshop strives to develop your natural eye first, and then bring the technical skills of photography up to it. You will spend as much time changing your perspective, sharpening your senses, and immersing yourself in nature as you will on developing new photographic skills.

Sundance is truly magical in late spring, with snowcapped mountains above us and the landscape below bursting with new foliage. Streams are full and the quality of light takes your breath away with its purity and brilliance. During the week, outdoor experiences in diverse natural areas take you through key steps towards enriching your photographs of the natural world as you find yourself focused less on objects and things, and more on the magic of moments and the essence of places. You stop chasing the light and learn to enjoy the fine art of wandering. You visit the same place in different light and different weather, getting to know it, and hence seeing it with new eyes. You learn that if you hear more and touch more, you will photograph with more sensitivity. You are rewarded by the skills of patience, solitude, and emptying. This workshop weaves together eye-opening outdoor experiences, technical lessons, and Eddie’s one-on-one meetings with each participant.

Who Should Attend
This workshop is for all photographers interested in creating more powerful images of the natural world. Participants may choose any camera format, however, a working knowledge of your camera is essential. We will review the work of photographers using digital cameras twice during the workshop, and equipment requirements will be included in an instructor letter if you wish to take part in the image reviews.
