Beyond the Snapshot

It's been said that, "Every picture tells a story..." That said, what is the difference between a snapshot and a photograph with lasting impression? How can we make meaningful images — whether setting foot in our own backyards or an endless field of wild flowers at The Sundance Photographic Workshop? During the week we will photograph locations both inside and out, as well as our personal belongings, using the beautiful Utah natural light. Discover how we each experience a place in our own way and how that personal moment in time can evoke emotion and tell a story to others.

We will investigate what attracts us to a particular spot and compels us to stop, press the shutter release and capture that place and moment forever. How does that solitary moment translate to others? Upon reviewing your work, Jill will provide personalized assignments designed to teach you how to analyze the picture making process to create images that evoke a response and further thought from the viewer. Through daily critiques and shooting assignments, students will learn editing skills, which will advance their personal vision.

Biography
Jill Enfield is a respected artist whose book, Photo Imaging: A Complete Guide to Alternative Processes, was published by Watson-Guptill and won the Golden Light Award for Best Technical Book of 2002. In May 2003, Jill's web site was awarded one of the "25 Best Web-sites" by Photo District News Magazine. In 2004, Enfield received a Faculty Development Grant through the New School in New York City and embarked on melding historical and modern techniques to create a body of work. Her main subjects were new immigrants to the United States; she worked with both wet-plate collodion and digital processes to create the final prints. Nikon has honored Jill on two occasions selecting her as a "Legend Behind The Lens." New work can be seen in the March/April 2006 issue of View Camera Magazine, the May/June 2006 issue of Photo Techniques Magazine, and www.takegreatpictures.com.
