Sundance Photographic Workshop

Painting with Light

March 26 - 30, 2007

Rick Rickman

Painting with light is a photographic study in revealing form and texture by utilizing non-traditional light sources. This course will teach the student how to create images with flashlights, penlights, and huge, many million watt candle spotlights. We will begin with small still life images that will be done indoors and progress to still life images created outdoors. This class will finalize with portraits created by the students in beautiful outdoor settings incorporating the beauty of the Sundance area into those images.

Students will learn to use one light source in the initial classes and progress to multiple light sources that create additional colors and texture that bring an aesthetic nature to their art forms.

This class is intended to improve the students' understanding of the quality of light as well as improve their artistic abilities. This emerging new aspect of photography helps free the student to think differently about ways to create beauty with light.
